Current Status:

Winooski residents have begun a campaign to reduce energy use community-wide. Called "Winooski Sustainability Effort", the effort aims to lower energy costs for area homes and businesses by helping residents to replace 35,000 incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
"Winooski Sustainability Effort" is in partnership with Efficiency Vermont's campaign titled "Geographic Targeting"—an effort to direct energy efficiency efforts toward targeted geographic areas across the state to help relieve the electric load on constrained transmission and distribution systems.
As electricity demand increases, the need to take action, either to upgrade the electric transmission and distribution infrastructure or to reduce the load becomes more critical.
If successful, Geographic Targeting will demonstrate lower cost ways to accommodate growing electricity demands.
